International Mathematical Olympiad 1989 (Braunschweig (Brunswick), West Germany) Scores

At the 1989 IMO held in Braunschweig (Brunswick), West Germany, 291 contestants from 50 countries competed. 20 gold medals were awarded to those scoring at least 38; 55 silver medals were awarded to those scoring from 30 to 37; and 72 bronze medals were awarded to those scoring from 18 to 29.

The maximum individual score possible was 42 (which 10 contestants attained). The mean individual score was 18.924, with a standard deviation of 12.489. The following table shows how many contestants attained each possible score.
